– Do I need a permit for home improvements or construction?
Yes, a permit is required for most construction and home improvement projects. You can apply for permits through the Building and Permits page or at City Hall.
– Where do I apply for a business license?
The City of Sigourney does not have a business license process. Businesses need to go through the State of Iowa. If you need a liquor license, you need to go through Alcohol Beverages, and the City of Sigourney will be contacted, and the City Council must approve. A Retail Cigarette Permit will need to go through the City Council.
– How do I obtain a permit for a community event?
You can request event permits by visiting the Parks and Recreation or Events page, or you can contact City Hall for more information.
– When is trash and recycling pickup?
Trash is picked up every Wednesday. The City of Sigourney pays Keokuk County for the citizens of Sigourney to take their recycling South of town to Cox Sanitation. Cox Sanitation rules must be adhered to. If holidays fall on a Wednesday garbage may be picked up on a different day. This schedule is printed and is inserted with your monthly utility bill. Contact Cox Sanitation for information on their schedules.
