MY BACKGROUND
I was born in Jefferson, Iowa, in 1948 and raised in Des Moines. I married Nancy on April 20, 1968, and we moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where we lived for 45 years while raising our four children. I served in the U.S. Army Reserves for seven years and retired as a sergeant in 1975.
EDUCATION & EMPLOYMENT
I attended Iowa State University before transferring to the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where I focused on Engineering courses. While working as a Structural Technician, I took classes specifically in Structural Engineering. Most of my career was spent as a Structural Technician, creating structural working drawings for projects across the Midwest.
RETIREMENT
After retiring, we moved to Sigourney, Iowa, in 2014. To get involved in the community, I began attending morning coffee gatherings and City Council meetings. A few months later, I was asked to fill a vacancy on the Council. After serving for 5 1/2 years, I saw opportunities for improvement and decided to run for mayor in 2021.
ADDITIONAL INVOLVEMENT AND AREAS OF INTEREST
In addition to being mayor, I serve on several boards and commissions. These include the Keokuk County Emergency Management Commission, the Regional Planning Commission (RPC) Area 15 Transportation, and the Keokuk County Economic Development board of directors (KCED). I am also the Commander of the Sigourney American Legion and the Chairman of the Keokuk County Senior Center.
